Migrate from Mailchimp to Crownvo
Crownvo is built for marketers who want a faster, more modern email platform. Same deliverability, better builder, transparent pricing, and an automation builder that doesn't require engineering help.
Migration: 1-3 days · Difficulty: Moderate
What you'll move
Subscribers, templates, automations, and suppression lists — all in one import.
Subscribers
Full audience including tags, custom fields, and signup source. Unsubscribes and bounces carry over as suppressions.
Templates
Saved templates import as Crownvo drag-and-drop layouts. Merge tags and personalization tokens are remapped automatically.
Automations
Customer journeys, drip sequences, and behavioral triggers are rebuilt in Crownvo's visual automation builder.
Suppression lists
Unsubscribes, hard bounces, spam complaints, and manual suppressions all transfer — your sender reputation stays clean.
The import guide
A 5-step process, from export to first send. Estimated time: 1-3 days.
Export your audience from Mailchimp
Use Audience → Export Audience. Pick CSV with all custom fields. Tags export as a separate column.
- Audience → Export Audience → CSV (include custom fields)
- Tags column auto-generated alongside contact data
- Export each audience separately if you have multiple
Export your templates
Open the Templates dashboard, click Edit → More → Export as HTML. Repeat per template.
- Templates → click template → Edit → More menu → Export as HTML
- Repeat for every template (including archived)
- Note any custom code blocks for the onboarding team
Export your automations
In Customer Journeys, export each journey's report for historical data, then screenshot the journey for our team to rebuild.
- Customer Journeys → View Report → Export Results (CSV)
- Screenshot the visual builder for each journey
- Note any custom webhook or API triggers
Import to Crownvo
Sign in, go to Audience → Import. Upload the CSV, map fields, and we'll convert templates + automations hands-on.
- Audience → Import → drag in the Mailchimp CSV
- Map custom fields (we'll pre-fill the common ones)
- Send the template HTML + journey screenshots to onboarding
Verify deliverability and cut over
Set up your sending domain, send a test campaign, then update signup forms and link Crownvo as the new sender.
- Settings → Domains → verify DKIM/SPF/DMARC
- Send a test to Gmail, Outlook, and Yahoo
- Swap signup form endpoints + transactional sender
Common gotchas
The issues teams hit most when switching from Mailchimp — and how to avoid them.
Mailchimp merge tags need remapping
Mailchimp uses *|MERGE|* tags; Crownvo uses {{ merge }} tags. Our importer handles this automatically, but custom merge tags for product recommendations may need a one-time remap.
Single opt-in vs double opt-in
Mailchimp defaults to single opt-in. If you've enabled double opt-in, make sure your Crownvo import keeps the same setting — otherwise, your deliverability may shift temporarily.
Automation triggers don't auto-map
Customer Journey triggers (date-based, API, webhook) need a quick mapping review. Our team walks through this with you during onboarding for free.
